Omega Centauri is the brightest and largest-appearing globular cluster in the sky. This photograph was taken soon after dusk when Omega Centauri was just barely visible above the local horizon and about to set. (Low-atmosphere turbulence bloated the star images somewhat). Astro-Physics 105mm (4.1 inch) refractor at f/6. 10 minutes on gas-hypersensitized Kodak Pro 400 PPF color-negative film. The field is 1° x 1.5° centered at 13h 27m, -47° 28'. North is to the right. Photographed from near Vicuña, Chile. ©1998 | |||||||||||||||||||
